The Power of Presence: The Rise of Black Men in Organizational Leadership
This seminar is a strategic, six-week leadership development experience designed exclusively for mid- and senior-career Black male professionals. Moving beyond traditional leadership theory, this seminar creates a supportive cohort to decode the “unwritten rules” of organizational politics and dismantle the fatigue associated with the isolation of often being the “only one” in the room. Through a blend of introspective work and tactical career management, participants will master the art of organizational power mapping to distinguish between mentorship and true sponsorship. By addressing the nuances of “leading while Black,” the curriculum equips leaders to balance authenticity with executive presence, negotiate their true market value, and design a 5–10-year career roadmap. The small group sessions are moderated by senior higher education leaders, Drs. Courtland Lee and S. Kent Butler. Participants must commit to six, two-hour sessions and one onboarding session, held via Zoom. Preparatory materials will be sent prior to each session.
